The Blackout
The Blackout
By Samantha Dryden
Charlotte was biking home from school. It was great being in the fresh air again after a long day of being in a stuffy classroom doing math. She hated math. But none of that mattered at the moment because tonight was her favourite night of the week. Shopping night.
"Can you please pick up that tin of pineapple for me" asked Charlotte's mum as they walked through the supermarket about an hour after dark.
"Sure" said Charlotte. She bent down to pick up the tin.
Suddenly the lights went out.
She couldn't see the tin any more. In fact she couldn't see anything except the supermarket manager just up ahead, his torch shining brightly as he led everyone out of the emergency exit. Charlotte began to follow. So desperate to get out of the dark supermarket that she forgot all about the tin and tripped over it.
Tears rolled down her cheeks. She couldn't see the supermarket manager's torch light any more. Charlotte was alone . No light. No sense of direction. No one to comfort her. A shiver ran down Charlotte's spine. She knew that when you get lost you are meant to stay put. But Charlotte was afraid of the dark and would try almost anything to get out.Still crying she got up and started to walk forward , arms out in front of her.
Charlotte hadn't gotten far when she walked right into a shelf full of marshmallows. The soft packets rained down over her as she turned to run the other way. This must be the way. Yes. She could see the soft moonlight coming from the glass doors. She could see her mum waiting for her just outside.
She could see the electricity man coming to turn on the lights.

Camp Poem
WALT write a chain poem about our camp experiences.
Getting to CAMP takes forever.
The dangerous MONORAIL peached high apon the steep hillside.
The curved track helping the cart to pick up SPEED
The cart is in a RUSH, as long as it is on the track it never stops.
Faster than any human can ever RUN.
The carts ENERGY bar forever full.
A flash of LIGHTNING one flash and your at the bottom.
A dangerous STORM throwing you off balance.

Living Springs Camp
The camp fire was really fun
because we sang songs
and made smores.
The bouldering wall was really challenging
AND FUN!

CHOOSE YOUR CULTURE TREAT IT FOUR WAYS!
we are learning about the elements and techniques of painting. We are able to share our cultural identities through the arts.
I chose the New Zealand culture for my painting, because me and my parents were born in New Zealand. I researched a few icons but realised that marmite was a good icon to do. I chose marmite because I love marmite and it is well known in New Zealand.
And then I learnt about Andy Warhol and how he said the rules of art were meant to be broken. Andy Warhol created pop art. In this style he chose popular icons and painted them using different colour mixes.
I learnt about the colour wheel and the different colours on it. Such as
PRIMARY COLOURS. SECONDARY COLOURS COMPLEMENTARY COLOURS
red, yellow and blue. made by mixing primary colours oppisite on the colour
colours. wheel.
ANALAGOUS COLOURS MONOCHROME
3 colours side by side on the 3 shades of one colour
colour wheel.
We drew a bold design of our icon using a drawing pencil. Then we turned it over and traced it onto A2 paper four times one in each quadrant.
Then we chose the colours to paint our icons,
I chose
COMPLEMENTARY- blue and orange
ANALAGOUS- green, blue and turqouse
BLACK AND WHITE- black, white and grey
MONOCHROME-light purple, dark purple and grape purple
I think my art work was very successful it looks
AMAZING!
